Sealed with a Kiss

In the days of golden yonder years: with love letters one would seal the envelope with a kiss, lick the stamp and wait patiently for the postal worker to pick up; then one would wait days, weeks, sometimes even months for a reply.

Now days more often than not a click of a button sends the mail from ones computer to another but now even faster with Text on ones phone.  Reply is almost instantaneously.

Passion is gone from actual writing letters on paper.  I doubt if most 15 years old even know how to write a formal letter by hand.

Speed and efficiency is the name of the game now days.

I'm old school - I love writing a note by hand.  I give my guy hand written love notes quite often.  At one point he saved several years worth of little notes and had stashed them in his 'favorite box' that was kept in the drawer at the counter where we eat.  Every now and then he pulls out this box and reads through the notes once again.

I did not know for a few years that these notes where being kept.  Even as I type this post a smile is on my face knowing that  He tries very hard to conceal that he is a romantic.  My love notes are  kept, and viewed when one needs a reassuring measure of life and so I continue to seal them with a kiss.

Pirates, Hooks, and Grandma's

The little guy who calls me Grandma Pat is smart as a whip!  He is 4 1/2.  Although I'm not his true Grandma - the pleasure being called and loved just like a 'real life Grandma' is wonderful.  Each visit with him is one of discovering his vast knowledge about new things.  Plus leaves these ole Fishlips smiling with amazement and pride.

Had lunch with him and mommy plus a couple of other friends on Saturday.  As the case most times, I'm invited over to his house to play cars or he has something very new and important he needs to show off to me.  Its a ploy just for me to come over and play.

Having to run errands I begged off until Sunday - I already miss the days of when I had to beg off he would cry...Now he just becomes sweeter, begs and then acknowledges that its okay if I come the next day. All too soon I won't be invited to come over and play...I hope those days are long way off but I know they will arrive all too soon.

Sunday morning was busy with baking, and doing some work around the house.  By afternoon was free and I could go visit.

Since his pre-school was having a Halloween Party on Tuesday; his mommy had already asked if I would mind bringing the items over that I had gotten him for his birthday party which will be 'Pirate Theme' and my little guy was going to be a  Pirate for preschool party. My items would complete his outfit.

A 3 corner Pirates Hat, Eyepatch, Gold Hoop Earring, and the best item a Pirate's Hook.  For his birthday party I will be sewing up a dashing Captain Hook's type jacket and make him a peg leg.  But that will be down the road for now back to my story:

After arriving and chatting a few minutes,  the little guy wanted to show off his newly acquired outfit.  With a flash of a bright smile and stern look; then being told "To Turn Around and Don't Look Grandma Pat".

Fishlips complied and stood watching the single pet gold fish swim in his tank.

Then a  throaty "Har hAR  MaTey"

and a Very loud  -

"You can LOOKKKK NOW GRANDDMAAA PAT!"

Turning around my heart swooned for cutest pirate one could envision.

Then the announcement came, "Chase me Grandma Pat"  being handed a wooden sword and he running down the hallway wearing his hat, eyepatch and hook in hand.  Two circles through the kitchen and hallway made me lagged behind.  Then in the sweestest and most serious 4 year old voice I heard:

"Here Grandma Pat";  he proceeded to taking the wooden sword out of my and handing me the pirates hook he then said "You're a HOOKER!

Both his mother and I started laughing.  We both thought of what the word Hooker means in a content of ladies of the night.

Innocence word from the mouths of babes though...

To a 4year old I am Grandma Pat; a playmate and in our world on Sunday we are Pirates.  Chasing each other through and around the house; taking turns of one would be sword fighting and one would be fighting back with the hook; laughing and being silly.  Making this visit a moment of time that was totally fun and a day that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
