Fitting a Round Peg into a Square Hole

When my sons where young I watched them figure out a simple toy that had colored wood blocks in various shapes.  Frustration the first few times playing with this toy would occur but once the shape & which hole fit it; then it was onto new and more exciting toys.

In life there are days when the peg just doesn't fit into the hole you are trying to get it into.

It's a choice one makes each day how they are going to view the day & it is as different as each of my readers are.

Sometimes my view is square and other times I'm have a full circle view.

In my life I work with folks constantly battling the round peg fitting into a square hole dictated by society. I see the frustration and attempts to learn ways to fit  into society.

It's not much different from those days long ago when I watched two little blonde hair boys work their way through fitting a square peg into a round hole.

What's your view for the day?

Antiques, Collectibles in a vintage Cottage

Yellow challenge is more enjoyable than I thought, I am actually enjoying taking pictures of items that are not flowers.

I'm calling it 'Yellow Mellow Fellow' then I post a pic over at my Facebook page showing off that day's picture!

I started the challenge off with a visit to the new location of the Pack Rat Antique shop - now located at 1068 West Fireweed Lane, Anchorage, AK, 99503.

I love walking around looking at old things...some items I remember from childhood that my grandparents had in their kitchens, laundry rooms, or garages that their parents had handed down from their parents or that were the newfangled thing to own as my Grandma would say about her 1930/50's depression glassware she got out of various soap boxes.

As one of those baby boomers born in 1950 I love, love, love collectibles from this time period!

My dream is to have a little cottage styled house all decorated in items from the 30's thru the 60's.  Will have to wait til I'm rich and famous (have the cottage styled house just not all the needed antiques and collectibles to say HEY look at this)

My dream kitchen would have these items - Since red is one of my favorite colors:

Brick Architecture

Living in Anchorage, Alaska as I do it always surprises me that the city has very few 'brick' homes and buildings.

Having spent half of my life in St. Louis, Missouri - a city that was 80% brick buildings, I grew up thinking all cities had tons of buildings that were brick built and of many hues.

Bricks were a low cost building material in the days when St. Louis was at it's early stages of becoming the 'Gateway to the West' thanks to the explorers Lewis and Clark.

Brick architecture has fascinated me most of my life.  Colors range from reds to dark chocolate browns and pinks to beige.

It is quite expensive to use bricks or even some common stones for building in Alaska.  They must be shipped up from one of the lower 48 continental states.  So brick buildings are few and far between in any of the cities of Alaska.  Most often when one see's a brick building, the bricks are utilized more as a decorative enhancement.

Bricks may be made from clay, shale, soft slate, calcium silicate, concrete, or shaped from quarried stone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick
Clay is the most common material, with modern clay bricks formed in one of three processes - soft mud, dry press, or extruded.
Normally, brick contains the following ingredients:
  1. Silica (sand) - 50% to 60% by weight
  2. Alumina (clay) - 20% to 30% by weight
  3. Lime - 2 to 5% by weight
  4. Iron oxide - 5 to 6% (not greater than 7%) by weight
  5. Magnesia - less than 1% by weight

Creation

Creation

One single word: with a dozen or so meanings. All depending on where one’s mindset is at the moment when the word pops into your thoughts or deeds of the day.

Creation can be biblical if you are a person of one of the many faiths that abound in the world.

Creation can mean another thing when one discusses evolution of the world’s species.

Creation is quite often mentioned as the conception of a person’s thoughts and actions.

Fishlips does a lot of creating to entertain herself.  Fishlips is told that she is a creative person. Fishlips hopes what she creates brings joy to others. And mainly that a person steps back a few paces; take a moment or two to think, reflect, and understand the meaning of Fishlips creations.

A line of porta potties that created a work of POP Art by AS2Designs - known as Fishlips

A Letter to the Editor - Selling Sex

Writing about Sex and what sells.

Fishlips realizes at the moment one’s eyes seek the stats page; that some posts are more enjoyable to readers than another post.

Which means at times I’m boring: the subject is boring, or the photos are boring, everything depends on the whim of a person’s mind set.  Boring is not fun.

I want to be desirable.   Read with wild abandonment.  Fishlips has decided blogs need to be sexy.  Hip, cool, factual yet slinky.

It’s hard being sexy when writing a blog.  Sex sells, writing a blog does not.  Blogs can be boring, sex is not boring.

Preparing to be Sexy takes a lot of effort.

First one must prepare self.  Thank goodness no one views me via webcam in the mornings as I write.  Eyes still bleary from last night’s fitful sleep.  Hair pinned up yet not combed.  Robe is tied, but hanging loosely about my shoulders.

Music softly playing from the TV in living room as I sit at my desk in the office – the music is a mood enhancer – until the one I live with changes the channel to the news of the day.   Ruining my mood: instantly.  I don’t need to hear hundreds are protesting, thousands are starving, and this is just the segment about the politics of the day.

Fantasy is much more encouraging than fact.  This is second to preparing one’s self for being sexy.  Maybe a little role playing is needed here.   Such as a French Maids Outfit or a Sailors Outfit.  Neither of which I own; so much for role playing.  Thank goodness my audio is off otherwise you would hear a huge sigh.

Third stage of being sexy is all hype.  Stars do not dance in one’s eyes; unless you’re watching a certain TV program.  Each of us in our mind has that ideal sexy person.  For me Sam Elliot has to be one of the sexiest looking and talking men around – I know his voice anywhere.  My heart skips a beat whenever a certain car commercial is heard on the TV.  For my guy if Denise Richards showed up at the front door I would be asked to go visit my mother (and Mom lives in Missouri).

There are days I feel sexy.  There are days sexy is not my goal.  I hope you enjoyed my tongue in cheek Sex vs Blog post.

Keeping it G rated as always,
Miss Sexy Fishlips

Trick or Treat Smell My Feet

Halloween is now over.   A fun night for many; seniors, baby boomers, and for those who are years younger.

In Anchorage, Alaska there were several exciting new venues and old venues on the slot for anyone looking to Halloween fun.

I hit Trick or Treat Street on October 30th.  An adventure by the merchants of downtown Anchorage who came together so that young and old could have a ton of fun!

As one of those baby boomers I love Halloween.  As a kid we would be out late filling pillow cases with candy given out by all in our neighborhood.  As soon as dinner was over a handful of us kids would band together and stay out way pass the time limit given by parents still handing out candy even as we dug our weary bones home.

May Halloween stay within hearts that enjoy it and always have fond memories of days racing with friends to the next house to get that favorite candy bar.
